BACKGROUND:
Passion, Service and Excellence
Passion, Service and Excellence are the core values and "slogan" for the campaign. These words also describe Chikondi Nkhoma's style of leadership to be adopted while in the National Assembly.
Passion (Chichewa: Khama)
Nothing is birthed in this world without passion. Our mothers had to passionately push us into this now global village. Our first act was one of passion. We cried! Passionately seeking to have our voice heard perhaps. The parliament was not meant to be an exhibition of education, power and influence - rather an exhibition of passionate integrity that transfers into actions of service for the community the Member of Parliament represents. Nothing is birthed in this world without passion. Our mothers had to push to enter us into this now global village. Our first act was one of passion. We cried! Passionately seeking to have our voice heard perhaps. The parliament was not meant to be an exhibition of education, power and influence - rather an exhibition of passionate integrity that transfers into actions in service for the community the Member of Parliament represents. Passion is defined as “the ability to start and finish scheduled projects for the constituency.”
The Emerging Generation
There is a passionate generation that has emerged. Life expectancy in Malawi is currently under 40. This crisis calls for the emergence of young, but responsible leadership. Chikondi encourages the young adults to focus their passion on seeking to find creative ways to take on the responsibility of developing a sustainable Malawian economy.
Service (Chichewa: Utumiki)
True leadership is the ability to find needs and the capacity to adequately meet those needs. Chikondi will be a Member of Parliament that takes time to research by asking community leaders and constituents on what has been accomplished, what is being done, and what needs to be done. Chikondi will listen first, and then propose to the government policies and projects that directly impact the constituents.
Excellence (Chichewa: Dongosolo)
Excellence is not a one-man job. Implementation of projects and the use of funds will be strategically worked through by a network of other local government bodies (such as the City Assembly) and community leaders. It not enough to passionately advocate for the development of the constituency. Chikondi will work with chiefs and intelligent personnel within a “Local Leadership Network.” The constituencies of Malawi lack such coordination – between the MP, the local assembly and those directly responsible for community development. Excellence is working strategically with all individuals and bodies needed for the development of the constituency.
The “Dzuwa Lawala” Project
Chikondi Nkhoma will be running a “project oriented” campaign. The Chikondi campaign will not waste money on hand-outs and excessive publicity materials as is mostly the practice in popular politics. Chikondi will identify community needs that can be meet during the campaign period. Chikondi will work hand in hand with community leaders in making sure that essential community needs are met. The Chikondi campaign is more development focused than it is political.
Dwawa Lawala is Chichewa for “the Sun is completely out.” The first leaders of Malawi often cried out “Kwacha (it’s dawn)!” Malawians are now living in a generation where we are completely exposed to everything necessary for self-sustainability. There is a half sun on our flag representing the dawn of political independence. Dzuwa Lawala is a concept that challenges the emerging generation to take full advantage of the foundation laid by previous leaders and to participate in debates concerning necessary policy reforms.
Project Oriented Campaign
Projects will be run on the basis of urgency. Community leaders in all “areas” in the community have helped identify these projects. Chikondi will be working with various to complete projects that have already been started by reputable organization. This is also an effort to encourage community initiative. In other words, “helping those who are already helping to be more ready to help the helpless.”
Independent representation
The local leaders of Lilongwe City Central are particularly interested in an independent candidate in their constituency. The main advantage of being an independent is that Chikondi is able to work closely with whatever the government of that “day” will be. He can work closely with the community on development issues without the complications of party politics. Chikondi will also be able to advocate peace and tolerance during the elections, as well as in parliament. The constituents of Lilongwe City Central have been disappointed by their past representatives. They are now ready for a neutral representative who understands that Lilongwe City Central is looking forward to an impartial voice to represent them.
About the Lilongwe City Central constituency
The Lilongwe City Central constituency is made up of a population of people from diverse creeds and socio-economic backgrounds. It includes the capital hill, the parliament in construction, the city center made up of Non Government Organizations (NGOs), government department, ICT and Media companies and other industry leaders. Lilongwe is divided in “areas.”
The constituency includes: Kauma, City Center, Areas 10, 11, 12, 14, 18, 43, 30, 49, 25, Chimoka, Senti, Mchezi, Ngona, Dzenza, Chatata, Tsoka, Kaingambalame, Mbwetu, Nkhumba, Mtola, Kamkota, Kachiundo, Khoswe, Chiphaka, Kumalambo, Kalenga and others.
Chikondi’s desire is to embark on closing the socio-economic gap that exists between the urban areas and the villages by providing health care, education, Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) solutions, food security, entrepreneurship, and affordable housing.
ISSUES:
The Local Leadership Network
Chikondi Nkhoma will create a local leadership body called The Local Leadership Network (TLLN) whose aim will be to bridge the gap between parliament, the city assembly and local leaders for strategic development processes. The TLLN will be a council comprised of representatives from all sectors within the constituency. Chikondi will consult TLLN on a regular basis.
Entrepreneurship
Chikondi Nkhoma will strive to create opportunities for the creation of diverse, small, medium and large enterprises in the constituency. Chikondi will create a Business Leadership Network (BLN) that will assist in developing an entrepreneurship curriculum for primary and secondly schools in the constituency. The emerging generation fund will be made available as a pool of funds from international sources accessible to promising young adults who have viable business plans that contribute to job creation and the overall development of the constituency.
Among other things the BLN will also be useful for making recommendations on pricing, labor regulations, job creation, business development, research and market analysis. The focus will be challenging the local Malawian to develop enterprises that create inheritance. The BLN will also encourage a production chain economy by calling on investors and local businesses to diversify.
Socio-Economic Development
Chikondi Nkhoma understand that more than 80% of the population in the Lilongwe City Central constituency lives below the poverty line. In adherence with the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs), Chikondi will also advocate for the use of government drafted development blue prints such as the Vision 2020 document. Chikondi will advocate and implement policies for the elderly, the disabled, orphans and vulnerable children. Chikondi recognizes the impact of faith-based organizations that are implementing different socio-economic development programs in the constituency. He plans to work hand in hand with them.
Chikondi believes that Family Enrichment is the key to harmonious and prosperous African communities. He will be making assessments on a regular basis pertaining the wellbeing of the families in the constituency. Families that take care of Orphans, the elderly and other vulnerable citizens, who are not a part of the immediate family will be considered by a Family Enrichment Fund (FEF).
Women and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs)
It has been proven over and over that women all around the world have been most reliable in repaying small loans and growing small and medium enterprises.
Chikondi has designed a program called “honor the women (Lamekezani Azimayi).” This program will be carried out in association with TLLN, BLN, and interested Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs). It’s aim is to give the women in the constituency an a source of income, a sense of purpose and empowerment for decision making in the local communities. The program will also address issues concerning violence against women.
Chikondi Nkhoma believes that giving women a platform for productivity will help solves the most of the gender related issues. Chikondi Nkhoma will assist in creating a fund run by the community that makes available financial resources for various business ideas presented by the most capable wome

Farming is the main contributor of the Malawian economy. Sadly, most of that contribution is from tobacco farming. One third of Malawi is water. Streetlights are very essential to making the city of Lilongwe safe. They must be repaired and installed on all necessary roads.

One of the main causes for the rapid increase in HIV/AIDS infection among the young is the lack of wholesome entertainment and mentally stimulating activities in the communities of Malawi. Chikondi will ensure that every community has a youth center – for sports, recreation and arts. Chikondi will make Lilongwe City Center an “economic hot spot” for visitors of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. ICT and Media
The Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is one of the fastest growing industries in Africa. It is essential for development. People connected to useful information and to networks within their areas of interest become highly productive. However, the price for connectivity remains high. Chikondi will push government to become a key player in ICT policy making in the region and internationally as well. Lilongwe City Central is the cornerstone of all ICT in Malawi. Chikondi will make it possible for local communities to have affordable access to ICTs even in the villages.
Freedom of press and creative media outlets for educating the masses about a self-sustained economy will be encouraged. Chikondi will also urge the Media to create advertising and sales campaigns that promote tourism and investments.
Economic Policy
A study will be conducted on how every sector in the constituency affects the overall economy. Economic policies will be adapted from the government’s economic plans – and they will be tailored to the constituency based on results made by studies specific to the constituency.
Labor
Chikondi will ensure that no worker in the Lilongwe City Center constituency is abused or mistreated. Labor laws will be fully enforced.
