Chikondi Nkhoma born on the 3rd of January 1981 in Zomba and lived in Old Naisi just near the old parliament building for the first 5 years of his life. Every parliament session he would stand on the veranda and ask his mother who this man “Dr Kamuzu Banda” was who entering the parliament building with such honor. Taught by his grandfather Mr. Benia Kagona Banda he learned what parliament was at a very young age. Mr. Banda was an oxford scholar instrumental in translating the bible from English to Chichewa and also in charge of Chichewa Board whose main aim was to make Chichewa a national language - Chikondi’s mom Edith Nkhoma (nee Kagona Banda) is from Mawili village under TA Chilooko of the district of Ntchisi in Malawi. His father Dr. Desmond Nkhoma is from Kasungu and is currently chief Nkhulande.

Chikondi lived in Lilongwe until after being accepted to the University of Malawi – Polytechnic Campus as one of the first students of Journalism. His stay at the “Poly” was shortened after he met a Mr. Days who gave him a scholarship to study in the USA. Chikondi Nkhoma’s legacy will be a life lived to better mainly, the ICT, Media and Entertainment industry, the African Political arena and the world of Business and investments. Chikondi Nkhoma a graduate of Kamuzu Academy in Malawi has also been a student of Telecommunications Management and Entrepreneurship at Howard University in Washington DC where he developed innate managerial and leadership skills, and a love for the various uses of integrated media and business networking.

Chikondi’s father, Dr. Desmond Nkhoma opened his eyes to the wonderful world of media, NGO management and diplomacy. Dr. Nkhoma started out as a print journalist. Dr. Nkhoma’s career took off when he became a radio announcer/program manager for Channel Africa in South Africa. He became the first voice that cried out for the freedom to discuss the possibility of a Malawian democratic government. Shortly after the season of his program ended, Malawi became a democratic country. It was then Chikondi became aware of the power of the media. Having become a political advisor, a great grant writer for the UN and other non-profit organizations he has imparted in his son Chikondi the gift of selling ideas, and raising money for humanitarian projects (dealing with HIV/AIDS, Food Security, Orphans and other issues relevant to development). Dr. Nkhoma has also been responsible for demonstrating to his son that organized local leadership is the key to sustainable development in Malawi.

 

While in Washington DC, Chikondi remained actively involved in securing networks for an NGO started by his father. He was also privileged to have worked for a community development non-profit in the USA whose focus is home ownership for the disadvantaged. While in school Chikondi also worked for the Ralph Bunch International affairs center under the leadership of Ambassador H. Dawson. The center’s aim is to encourage students to embark on careers in the Foreign Service. In 2006 Chikondi was given the honor of introducing to Howard University the Assistant Secretary of State for Africa, Dr Jadai Frazer.              

Upon his return to Africa Chikondi Nkhoma has planted a youth organization “Madlove Lounge” for wholesome entertainment and mentorship in Nairobi Kenya and also in Malawi. Madlove has hundreds of youth who are keen on pursuing their dreams. Madlove Lounge provides a platform for them get mentored in their various interests.

After two visits to the Malawian parliament Chikondi is convinced that the three core values are desperately needed in the Malawian house. These care values are Passion, Service and Excellence. Above those core values Chikondi’s priority is to love God, to love his wife and family, and work to create inheritance for his children’s children. Chikondi Nkhoma endeavors to be a member of parliament who through passion, service and excellence will create policies that are implemented strategically through a network of an assembly of community leaders. Chikondi is one to focus on accomplishing the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in all socio-strata of his community.
